Boston Common

T: Park Street

The Boston Common is America’s oldest public park. This 44 acres of open land was set aside as public land in 1634, shortly after settlers first came to the area. Originally, the Common was used for grazing cows and for training the militia. Now, Bostonians and visitors walk the Common everyday, whether business people en route to the financial district or visitors to Boston following the red line painted on the sidewalk marking the Freedom trail.
